Voice Instruction
Dr. Thomas has been instrumental in my vocal development over the past six years. Prior to studying with Dr. Thomas my singing was forced and felt inhibited. I have been learning how to undo bad habits, to sing more freely and expressively and to gently caress and craft the voice rather than forcefully manipulate it.  I look forward to each lesson and owe a great deal to Dr. Thomas as a vocal coach. She helps make my musical dreams seem attainable and always challenges me to be goal oriented and forward focused. I have recommended her to several people who have since studied with her and feel the same as I do.

I began taking lessons with Dr. Thomas after an extended period away from lessons and performing. In no time at all, I was getting my voice back. She encouraged me to audition for a local theater and I was pleasantly surprised when I landed the title role in "Jane Eyre" at Dundalk Community Theater.  Her technique and style of teaching is excellent, encouraging, able to cut through to the heart of whatever issues may be at hand, and never heavy-handed with her critiques. I have had many voice teachers in the past, and Dr. Thomas has proven to be one of the most enjoyable to work with, not just the lesson itself is pleasant, but because I am able to see improvement on a continuous basis and can take joy in our shared success.

I have studied with Dr. Thomas for approximately four years. During that time I have been pleasantly shocked at her ability to recognize and address every problem and defect in my voice. I am particularly impressed since I have studied voice over thirty years and I am truly and constantly learning something new thanks to her unique talent as a voice teacher.

Dr. Thomas gives honest evaluation and is able to pinpoint problem areas and provide excellent suggestions for improvement. Her technique for learning to relax while singing has improved both my vocal and performance qualities. Lessons can be fun!!!

Singing and Alexander Technique
With Alexander Technique I am able to find more resonance in my voice and more
ease while singing. I have also learned how to maintain good vocal health while
producing a richer sound. The practice of Alexander Technique affects not only the ease with which I perform singing and non-singing activities, it also influences how I conduct my life by requiring greater awareness of self and environment.
Rebekah Robinson, Singer, Candidate for Masters of Jewish Music at Gratz College, UMBC Class of 2003

Alexander Technique has been a wonderful "awakening" for me into the unconscious habits and postures that have been causing me considerable discomfort and vocal fatigue. I am so grateful for the healing that has come about as I practice concepts of Alexander Technique. It's allowed me to sing again-what joy!
Cheryl Foley, Singer, Member of Upper Chesapeake Chorus

When I began studying voice with Dr. Thomas in 2005, I could barely make a sound. I was stressed out, and my body was very tense. I relied on old, bad habits to force the sound out.  Dr. Thomas started me with Alexander Technique lessons. Through these lessons, I began to recognize the parts of my body that were tense, and then began to allow those tense parts to relax. We progressed slowly through these lessons and gradually added voice lessons. I began to feel freedom in my voice and my body. Now I’m not only able to make sounds again, but I can sing!

My work with Alexander Technique has improved my singing voice. I've become aware of tension in my knees, hips and shoulders that was making singing more difficult and less free and I hadn't even been feeling it. Alexander Technique helps to release the tension and I definitely observe in myself a greater ease of breath. It is easier to sustain high notes and my voice doesn't tire as quickly.
